February 2021. FarmDroid is the world’s first fully automatic robot that can take care of both sowing and mechanical weed control. We help farmers and growers reduce costs of sowing and weeding crops while also doing it in a CO2 neutral and ecological way.
In 2020, the farmers have, among other things, sowed and weeded sugar beets, onions, beetroot, spinach, kale, valerian, flower seeds, and rapeseed. One single robot can in a single season sow and weed 20 hectares according to our specifications. Multiple robots can operate on one or more fields.
Precise weeding ensures enhanced yield and reduces or eliminates the need for hard and repetitive manual labor. GPS technology is used to know the position of every individual sowed seed and therefore, FD20 does not depend on a camera for crop or weed recognition. Therefore it can start the weeding process before plants have germinated. The robot’s light weight, so it does not destroy the soil’s microstructure.
